Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Date: Saturday 6th June
Time: 10am–12pm
Tickets: £55 per person
Spend a Saturday morning learning modern calligraphy with me! This workshop provides everything you need to know, kit to take home and a hot drink is included.
No experience is necessary.
A two hour workshop - you can take some time out and spend some time on your own, or come with friends and family to try your hand at a new skill. A beginners calligraphy kit is included for you to keep and take home as well as your final work.
What is in the kit? You will have a pen holder, nib, a jar of black ink, my own handmade gold ink, along with worksheets, practise paper and some luxury card, with envelopes and gift tags and a box to store it all in.
What will we do? We will begin with an introduction to modern calligraphy techniques, some warm up strokes before practising the alphabet and then moving on to some words and styles so we can create our own pieces. There will be full guidance throughout and I will be there to help you and answer any further questions you might have.
Can I buy more card and ink colours to continue my practise and make more at home? Yes! I have lots of additional extras available to buy at each workshop, from extra practise paper and books, to my own handmade metallic inks as well as a variety of nibs, pen holders and brush pens.
But my handwriting is rubbish! That doesn’t matter at all. I’ll tell you a secret - so is mine! This is all about slowing it down, taking it easy and going with the flow. It is easier than it looks, you will have fun and you will be so proud of what you achieve!
I’m left handed - does that matter? Not at all, there are many left handed calligraphers!
Is there a group limit? Yes - there will be a maximum number of people per workshop to allow each person has full support and I can answer everyones questions should you have them.
Is food available? Yes - Yalm is a food hall located in The Royal Arcade in Norwich City Centre. Why not make more of an occasion of it and get some food at Yalm for lunch after - if you haven’t been yet then now is the perfect chance for an exciting meal out after learning something new - a perfect day!
FOLK at YALM presents Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton
Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
An evening of powerful songs, rich stories and regional tradition, this concert brings together two distinctive voices from the English folk scene. From the rugged dales of Yorkshire to the windswept coasts of East Anglia, Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton explore the songs and tunes of their home regions with passion and individuality.
Serious Sam Barrett
Otley-born Serious Sam Barrett is a hard-touring folk and country singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in Yorkshire landscapes and lived experience. Raised in the Dales village of Addingham and shaped by the Leeds folk scene, Sam’s raw, heartfelt performances draw equally on traditional songs and his own writing. Armed with 12-string guitar and banjo, he delivers music that feels both timeless and fiercely personal.
Since the release of his acclaimed debut Close To Home in 2009, Sam has built a reputation as a compelling live performer, blending intricate finger-picking with songs that carry echoes of Appalachian folk and southern blues while remaining unmistakably English.
Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2: “The sustained brilliance of this playing is really something to behold.”
Uncut Magazine: “Songs that rattle with the ghosts of Appalachian folk, and southern blues, yet sound emphatically English.”
Georgia Shackleton
Georgia Shackleton is a singer, fiddler whose work is deeply inspired by the traditional songs of East Anglia. Drawing from source singers such as Harry Cox, Walter Pardon and Phoebe Smith, Georgia brings old songs to life with clarity, warmth and a strong sense of place, alongside original material shaped by the same tradition.
Her acclaimed debut album Harry’s Seagull showcases her thoughtful approach to traditional material, praised for its storytelling, musicianship and emotional depth. Georgia’s performances are engaging and intimate, offering audiences a direct connection to the voices and landscapes of East Anglia. Tonight Georgia will be playing traditional music from East Anglia alongside self penned material from her new album 'From the Floorboards'.
Sam and Georgia offer a night of honest, roots-driven folk music grounded in tradition, and alive in the present.
"Beautiful Songs" - Mark Radcliffe, BBC radio 2
"Harry's Seagull shows just how invigorating traditional music can be and how old songs sung with affection can sparkle like new. One of the freshest and most appealing folk albums of the year" - Folk Radio UK

FOLK at YALM presents Tarren
FOLK AT YALM presents Tarren
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Tarren, one of the most exciting new forces on the UK folk scene, as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
Music can exist outside time. The new and the old are melded expertly by Tarren with their trademark sound that is progressing the Folk genre. This is New-Folk — captivating, rhythm-driven and emotionally charged.
Blending modular hooks and minimalist forms with traditional dance rhythms, Tarren create music that feels both ancient and entirely contemporary. Their tight musicianship and intricate arrangements are delivered through a playful prism that reflects the character of the trio, taking listeners from foot-stomping exhilaration to moments of deep sensitivity.
Original and traditional material sit side-by-side in a sound world shaped by:
Sid Goldsmith (Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith, Awake Arise)
Alex Garden (The Drystones, Harriet Riley & Alex Garden)
Danny Pedler (Pedler // Russell)
Together they combine cittern and concertina, fiddle and accordion to create their distinctive New-Folk sound.
Formed during the 2021 lockdowns through the sharing of compositions online, Tarren quickly evolved into a powerful live trio. Their debut album REVEL (2022) received widespread acclaim, drawing comparisons with Faustus and Lau’s legendary debut Lightweights and Gentlemen.
Their second studio album Outside Time (2024) presents a developed and confident sound, gaining high praise across the folk world.
“Simply an excellent Folk trio” “Thrilling” – **** Songlines
“This new album (Outside Time)… further establishes them as a new and exciting act of the Folk scene with their own unique sound” – **** The Morning Star
“The sounds of fiddle and viola, cittern and English concertina, and accordion and hurdy gurdy have rarely sounded better, nor as much fun, as they do here – a testament to the talents of the trio and a confident and welcome signifier that English folk music is in very safe hands.” – Folk Radio UK
“A Mini Folk Supergroup!” – Tradfolk
“Tarren’s music feels traditional, but also fresh and original. It’s joyful, but with deep sensitivity. A freshness that deserves to have wider appeal.” – Folking.com
Expect driving rhythms, soaring melodies and a night that celebrates the pulse of traditional dance music while pushing folk into thrilling new territory.

FOLK AT YALM presents Chris Wood
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Chris Wood, as he takes to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
In a world of soundbites and distractions Chris Wood is a truth seeker. His writing is permeated with love and wry intelligence, uplifting and challenging as he celebrates the sheer one-thing-after-anotherness of life. Tom Robinson and Chris Difford are fans while Stick In The Wheel and The Unthanks look to him as an influence. Winner of 6 BBC Folk Awards, he’s played with The Royal Shakespeare Company and was a key member of The Imagined Village along with Billy Bragg and Martin Carthy. A wise and soulful craftsman, his concerts are a cliche free zone.
“Chris Wood might be the Ken Loach of songwriting. Very political, but at the same time full of compassion, and he grows sharper and more acute with each passing album. He’s good, quite probably the very best we have today, and we need him more than ever.”

Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Date: Sunday 8th February
Time: 10am–12pm
Tickets: £55 per person
Spend a Sunday morning learning modern calligraphy with me! This workshop provides everything you need to know, kit to take home and a hot or soft drink is included.

FOLK at YALM presents Honey & The Bear
FOLK AT YALM presents Honey & The Bear
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Honey & The Bear, as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
Honey & the Bear have been a tour de force on the UK Folk Festival circuit in recent years. The British folk and roots duo combine delicately interweaving vocal harmonies with emotive and evocative songwriting. With a diverse range of sounds and textures, and rhythms that flow from the fast and furious to gentle ballads, their live performances are spirited and dynamic. Conjuring stories in song, they tell tales of Suffolk folklore, courageous people they admire and their passion for nature which has been enchanting audiences up and down the country.
The multi-instrumentalist, husband and wife team comprised of songwriters Jon Hart (guitar, bass, bouzouki) and Lucy Hart
(guitar, ukulele, bass, banjo, mandolin & percussion), are often joined on-stage by band guests Evan Carson (percussion), Toby
Shaer (Fiddle/Flutes/Whistles) and Archie Churchill-Moss (diatonic button accordion) who feature on all three Honey & The Bear studio albums. Together they have played at many revered venues and festivals across the UK as well as travelled across the channel.
In November 2023 they released their latest album 'Away Beyond the Fret', their most personal album yet, featuring stories and
folklore of all things close to their heart including their home in Suffolk, nature, family, history and community. The album has
received much critical acclaim including 5 stars from the Morning Star. Shortlisted as FATEAs best band of 2023, they are
continuing to enjoy performing their repertoire live as part of their 10 Year Anniversary Tour this year.
Born and raised in Suffolk, Lucy learned violin and drums at school, sung in the Suffolk Jubilee choir and started songwriting at
age 15. She taught herself guitar whilst at university in Canterbury, and began performing her creations not long afterwards. At
27, she released her debut band album ’Step Right On’, songs from which you now hear her perform with Jon. Jon, a Yorkshire boy, raised in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, has been performing his own songs since his teens. A self taught guitarist, his love of driving guitar riffs is a core aspect of his song writing process. He has released three band albums, the latest of which was entitled ‘Level with me’, featuring ‘wristburner’ which is a gig favourite.
“A celebration of nature, history, family and community. Truly in the folk tradition.” - Steve Johnson - Morning Star
“Dexterously played with beautifully crafted arrangements around a perfect pairing of voices delivering personal
fine songs this is a stunning album.”- Marc Higgins – FATEA
“This album is one of the clearest recordings I’ve heard in a decade, holding its head above the roke and into the
sunlight on every track” - Seán Laffey, Irish Music Magazine
“The vocals of Lucy are as beautiful as ever….and she is now one of this country’s best folk singers” - Stephen Foster, Radio Caroline & EADT
