Visit Norwich – Christmas Crown Trail
Christmas Crown Trail with Visit Norwich
Yalm is taking part in the 2025 Christmas Crown Trail, inspired by the re-opening of Norwich Castle Keep where Henry I celebrated a magnificent Christmas in 1121. Visit Norwich is inviting festive spirits to explore the City of Stories.
Launching on 20 November and running until 5 January, the Christmas Crown Trail will guide visitors across the city centre locating festive displays, searching out crowns and clues within creative shop window designs. This fun and festive trail is a treasure hunt adventure designed to boost footfall and showcase our city’s businesses. People on the trail will be able to collect clues located in windows from 30 locations, solve a puzzle, and then enter our competition for the chance to win some incredible prizes donated by Norwich Castle.
Pick up a map in YALM (or check out the digital version here) and start searching for clues! This is Christmas for the curious.

Le Relais with Jules Maxwell
LE RELAIS with Jules Maxwell and Guests
“A place to pause, to share, to listen, and to begin again.”
Le Relais is a new weekly music evening curated by singer-songwriter Jules Maxwell, bringing together song, storytelling and community in YALM’s intimate Private Dining Room.
Each Thursday, Jules welcomes special guests to join him for an ever-changing night of original music, conversation and creativity.
ABOUT THE CONCEPT
The idea for Le Relais was born in 2015, when Jules and his wife Charlotte Darbyshire ran a small performance café called Le Relais de la Baie in Noyelles-sur-Mer, Northern France. The name “relais”comes from the old French “relaissier” — to release, to let go. Historically, a relais was a stopping place where travellers exchanged tired horses for fresh ones — a moment of rest and renewal before continuing the journey.
That same spirit of renewal lies at the heart of Le Relais at YALM — a space to slow down, connect, and rediscover the joy of intimate live music.
A UNIQUE LIVE MUSIC EXPERIENCE – EACH WEEK PROMISES SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW — SPONTANEOUS AND ROOTED IN THE ART OF SHARING SONGS IN REAL TIME.
Book your place and join Jules Maxwell every Thursday for Le Relais at YALM — where every night begins a new song.

FOLK at YALM presents Honey & The Bear
FOLK AT YALM presents Honey & The Bear
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Honey & The Bear, as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
Honey & the Bear have been a tour de force on the UK Folk Festival circuit in recent years. The British folk and roots duo combine delicately interweaving vocal harmonies with emotive and evocative songwriting. With a diverse range of sounds and textures, and rhythms that flow from the fast and furious to gentle ballads, their live performances are spirited and dynamic. Conjuring stories in song, they tell tales of Suffolk folklore, courageous people they admire and their passion for nature which has been enchanting audiences up and down the country.
The multi-instrumentalist, husband and wife team comprised of songwriters Jon Hart (guitar, bass, bouzouki) and Lucy Hart
(guitar, ukulele, bass, banjo, mandolin & percussion), are often joined on-stage by band guests Evan Carson (percussion), Toby
Shaer (Fiddle/Flutes/Whistles) and Archie Churchill-Moss (diatonic button accordion) who feature on all three Honey & The Bear studio albums. Together they have played at many revered venues and festivals across the UK as well as travelled across the channel.
In November 2023 they released their latest album 'Away Beyond the Fret', their most personal album yet, featuring stories and
folklore of all things close to their heart including their home in Suffolk, nature, family, history and community. The album has
received much critical acclaim including 5 stars from the Morning Star. Shortlisted as FATEAs best band of 2023, they are
continuing to enjoy performing their repertoire live as part of their 10 Year Anniversary Tour this year.
Born and raised in Suffolk, Lucy learned violin and drums at school, sung in the Suffolk Jubilee choir and started songwriting at
age 15. She taught herself guitar whilst at university in Canterbury, and began performing her creations not long afterwards. At
27, she released her debut band album ’Step Right On’, songs from which you now hear her perform with Jon. Jon, a Yorkshire boy, raised in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, has been performing his own songs since his teens. A self taught guitarist, his love of driving guitar riffs is a core aspect of his song writing process. He has released three band albums, the latest of which was entitled ‘Level with me’, featuring ‘wristburner’ which is a gig favourite.
“A celebration of nature, history, family and community. Truly in the folk tradition.” - Steve Johnson - Morning Star
“Dexterously played with beautifully crafted arrangements around a perfect pairing of voices delivering personal
fine songs this is a stunning album.”- Marc Higgins – FATEA
“This album is one of the clearest recordings I’ve heard in a decade, holding its head above the roke and into the
sunlight on every track” - Seán Laffey, Irish Music Magazine
“The vocals of Lucy are as beautiful as ever….and she is now one of this country’s best folk singers” - Stephen Foster, Radio Caroline & EADT

Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Copper Ink Pot Calligraphy Workshop
Date: Sunday 8th February
Time: 10am–12pm
Tickets: £55 per person
Spend a Sunday morning learning modern calligraphy with me! This workshop provides everything you need to know, kit to take home and a hot or soft drink is included.
A two hour workshop - you can take some time out and spend some time on your own, or come with friends and family to try your hand at a new skill. A beginners calligraphy kit is included for you to keep and take home as well as your final work.
What is in the kit? You will have a pen holder, nib, a jar of black ink, my own handmade gold ink, along with worksheets, practise paper and some luxury card, with envelopes and gift tags and a box to store it all in.
What will we do? We will begin with an introduction to modern calligraphy techniques, some warm up strokes before practising the alphabet and then moving on to some words and styles so we can create our own pieces. There will be full guidance throughout and I will be there to help you and answer any further questions you might have.
Can I buy more card and ink colours to continue my practise and make more at home? Yes! I have lots of additional extras available to buy at each workshop, from extra practise paper and books, to my own handmade metallic inks as well as a variety of nibs, pen holders and brush pens.
But my handwriting is rubbish! That doesn’t matter at all. I’ll tell you a secret - so is mine! This is all about slowing it down, taking it easy and going with the flow. It is easier than it looks, you will have fun and you will be so proud of what you achieve!
I’m left handed - does that matter? Not at all, there are many left handed calligraphers!
Is there a group limit? Yes - there will be a maximum number of people per workshop to allow each person has full support and I can answer everyones questions should you have them.
Is food available? Yes - Yalm is a food hall located in The Royal Arcade in Norwich City Centre. Why not make more of an occasion of it and get some food at Yalm for lunch after - if you haven’t been yet then now is the perfect chance for an exciting meal out after learning something new - a perfect day!

FOLK at YALM presents Chris Wood
FOLK AT YALM presents Chris Wood
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Chris Wood, as he takes to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
In a world of soundbites and distractions Chris Wood is a truth seeker. His writing is permeated with love and wry intelligence, uplifting and challenging as he celebrates the sheer one-thing-after-anotherness of life. Tom Robinson and Chris Difford are fans while Stick In The Wheel and The Unthanks look to him as an influence. Winner of 6 BBC Folk Awards, he’s played with The Royal Shakespeare Company and was a key member of The Imagined Village along with Billy Bragg and Martin Carthy. A wise and soulful craftsman, his concerts are a cliche free zone.
“Chris Wood might be the Ken Loach of songwriting. Very political, but at the same time full of compassion, and he grows sharper and more acute with each passing album. He’s good, quite probably the very best we have today, and we need him more than ever.”
FROOTS MAGAZINE
“As close as it gets to a perfect union of voice and guitar, lyrics and melody, compassion, irony, realism, wit, and humanity.”
THE HERALD ***** 5 Stars
“Nobody comes even close to equaling his bird’s-eye-view.”
THE IRISH TIMES ***** 5 Stars
“a rarefied talent, both as writer and interpreter.”
MOJO **** 4 Stars

FOLK AT YALM presents Alistair Anderson with support from Adam Clark
Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Alistair Anderson, with support from Adam Clark, as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.
Alistair Anderson
Internationally acknowledged as the master of the English Concertina and a fine exponent of the Northumbrian Pipes, with 37 tours of the USA, five to Australia, and countless European tours. He delights audiences with traditional music from Northumberland and beyond, as well as his own work rooted in these traditions.
His belief in traditional music’s place in contemporary society led him to found Folkworks, an organisation that inspired a new generation through workshops, summer schools and education projects.
“The finest recent original contribution to the tradition of English music” The Guardian
“The pleasure comes chiefly from the excellence of the playing. The concertina emerges as a flexible and sensitive instrument; in the hands of a player of Anderson’s quality it is amazing what it can achieve.” The Guardian
“He remains one of this country’s most majestic and inclusive instrumentalists” Colin Irwin.
Adam Clark
Roots music with guitar, banjo and voice. With a repertoire spanning American folk and bluegrass, West Africa, Gypsy Jazz and original songwriting, Adam now focuses on folk music connected to East Anglia and the British Isles. Expect songs with passion, improvisation, and singalong spirit — and a touch of the natural world, with a new album inspired by the moths of Norfolk.
