Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton

Don’t miss an exclusive evening with Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton as they take to the stage at Yalm Food Hall for this month’s FOLK AT YALM.

An evening of powerful songs, rich stories and regional tradition, this concert brings together two distinctive voices from the English folk scene. From the rugged dales of Yorkshire to the windswept coasts of East Anglia, Serious Sam Barrett and Georgia Shackleton explore the songs and tunes of their home regions with passion and individuality.

Serious Sam Barrett
Otley-born Serious Sam Barrett is a hard-touring folk and country singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in Yorkshire landscapes and lived experience. Raised in the Dales village of Addingham and shaped by the Leeds folk scene, Sam’s raw, heartfelt performances draw equally on traditional songs and his own writing. Armed with 12-string guitar and banjo, he delivers music that feels both timeless and fiercely personal.

Since the release of his acclaimed debut Close To Home in 2009, Sam has built a reputation as a compelling live performer, blending intricate finger-picking with songs that carry echoes of Appalachian folk and southern blues while remaining unmistakably English.

Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2: “The sustained brilliance of this playing is really something to behold.”

Uncut Magazine: “Songs that rattle with the ghosts of Appalachian folk, and southern blues, yet sound emphatically English.”

Georgia Shackleton
Georgia Shackleton is a singer, fiddler whose work is deeply inspired by the traditional songs of East Anglia. Drawing from source singers such as Harry Cox, Walter Pardon and Phoebe Smith, Georgia brings old songs to life with clarity, warmth and a strong sense of place, alongside original material shaped by the same tradition.

Her acclaimed debut album Harry’s Seagull showcases her thoughtful approach to traditional material, praised for its storytelling, musicianship and emotional depth. Georgia’s performances are engaging and intimate, offering audiences a direct connection to the voices and landscapes of East Anglia. Tonight Georgia will be playing traditional music from East Anglia alongside self penned material from her new album 'From the Floorboards'.

Sam and Georgia offer a night of honest, roots-driven folk music grounded in tradition, and alive in the present.

"Beautiful Songs" - Mark Radcliffe, BBC radio 2

"Harry's Seagull shows just how invigorating traditional music can be and how old songs sung with affection can sparkle like new. One of the freshest and most appealing folk albums of the year" - Folk Radio UK
